Does anyone know who the female singer is on the track Elephants On Acid?
Just to set the record straight. Pass The Knife & Insane OG are incorrectly mastered on the CD as well. The sound is not normalized with the rest of the album and the volume is insanely low on these two tracks compared to the rest. All the comments about how this is somehow intentional or it anecdotally sounded great on their system while they were tripping balls don't really mean anything, these are just the facts. Was going to snag the color vinyl but i'll wait for the reissue where they fix this problem. Kinda disappointing as it mars what is otherwise a really great return-to-form album from Cypress.
So first you say that those tracks are incorrectly mastered, and then you say the mastering is the same and that I have to get my ears checked?
I think you need to get your ears checked. The mastering is the same whether it's the vinyl/cd/cd with the vinyl/whatever. Take a look at the waveforms it's not really debatable.
Maybe they corrected the pressing in the meantime, but speaking for myself be sure that especially "Insane OG" is really low-level compared to the rest of the tracks. "Pass the knife" has the same problem but it's less pronounced".Meanwhile, I had no response from BMG.
look man i picked up my CD from the local FYE and listened to it multiple times since the first night when i was tripping and to me the whole thing still sounds fine.? so idk i will listen to it again and see if (on the tracks you listed) see if i can tell any difference but to me everything seems to flow nicely. are you sure it's not just the vinyl that has the prob??? or maybe even the cd that came w/ vinyl has the same mastering as the vinyl??? because if it was different people would prob bitch about that? like "why does my cd sound different than the vinyl?" i personally boiught the standalone cd and shit sounds great to my ears i will do another test run this afternoon and give an update... peace
He was probably trippin balls when he made it and forgot what happened.
Now trying to get in touch with BMG... hope to have better results.
I've emailed the mastering engineer about this a few weeks back but got no return...
If the mix of those songs is a failure it seems very strange to me that nobody in the band and / or the record company was aware when listening to the master before sending it to the factory to make all the copies. It may not be impossible but it is very unlikely, and I insist, when I listen to the full album for me there is not a problem of gain with those songs, as I notice the serious frequencies have a lot of presence, the volume is maintained in that sense with respect to the rest of the disc, and I understand it as a conception for those two themes. But I also understand this controversy, because this mixes are somewhat risky. But there is more dynamic range! :D
I've had this for one week. I have played the record 3 times and the CD probably 8 times. I have been a Cypress Hill fan since the early '90s. This is one impressive album. Some great instrumental parts. Awesome lyrics. I love the way they recorded people playing instruments and then used those recordings as samples. Instead of recycled beats like so many new hip hop groups do. This is quite possibly the best album of 2018.
I am astonished about this as previewing the album revealed to me something which is formulaic, lyrically worn out and filled with lacklustre parts...
I believe the same, it is the best album since IV. Too dark, good vibes, excellent rap, Muggs as usually, the spirit of CH.
This may be their best album, period. Conjures memories of Temples of Boom. At times trippy or bumpin', if you're a fan of the Hill you will probably love it.
whole album goes perfect with a trip. i saved this cd till i got back from phish show last weekend. SICK!!!!!!!
This album is completely amazing probably the best album of 2018 not only because they came back but the way they did it...
Anyone knows if the japan edition has extra tracks? Thanks!
all good man, i was just having some fun! :)
funny... so many times there are others editions that are not listed here until someone knows
if i was you i would check either www.discogs.com or http://bfy.tw/KUaH
Why is the volume on Insane OG so low on streaming platforms?Does the CD has the same problem?
I emailed the mastering palace about that, I'm waiting for an answer :)
I think this is not intentional, even considering what Plasticonegro said.
i listened to it tripping balls and everything sounded fucking awesome. listening on JBL pro monitors and sub
I tried with a Rig 500E and the volume still sounded pretty low especially the vocals. I can definitely hear the background noise but everything on the track still has a lower sound volume than on other tracks. When I tried playing Put em in the ground just after, everything was fine.
What happens in "Insane OG" (and "Pass The Knife") is that the kick (bass) drum has a very low frequency level, and I suppose that when mixing and mastering they wanted to maintain (in my opinion with good judgment) the dynamic range with respect to the rest of the elements (tracks) of each that song. If you hear "Insane OG" (and "Pass The Knife") with speakers capable of playing low frequencies (not a smartphone or similar), you may notice that the bass drum does not sound low volume, and is the way those songs are conceived.
Yeah that's a really weird problem. It does not have a consistently low volume like Czarface Meets Metal Face, it's only on some tracks. Thanks for the answer.
I'm wondering this as well... Got the CD today and that track sounds considerably lower. And I think "Pass The Knife" also sounds a bit lower than the others. Very strange.
