One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur is an album by Ben Gibbard Death Cab for Cutie and Jay Farrar Son Volt, released in 2009. The lyrics are based on the prose of Jack Kerouac's novel Big Sur 1962. One Fast Move or I'm Gone was a result of Gibbard's and Farrar's mutual appreciation for Kerouac's work while recording several songs for a feature-length documentary of the same name. Kerouac's sojourn to Big Sur is the subject of a new documentary by Curt Worden and a new album by Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard, both of which are titled One Fast Move or I'm Gone. The doc is a fawning appreciation of one of the most romanticized writers of the 20th century, and it never lets the actual man obscure the accepted myth of troubled genius. Farrar actually appears in the movie, performing San Francisco while seated on the floor of a hotel room next to an unmade bed, and the scene plays like his version of rock-and-roll fantasy camp. Even so, he and Gibbard. Album 2009 12 Songs. With Death Cab for Cuties Benjamin Gibbard trading vocals, co-writes and authoring the title track, Farrar puts and paraphrases the Beat Generation writers words from his 1962 novel Big Sur to music that is pure America, Western division. Beat-era writer Jack Kerouac and the troubling circumstances that inspired his 1962 novel Big Sur. you, but not all that different from his usual work. One Fast Move or I'm Gone might have evoked Jack Kerouac more vividly with other vocalists besides Farrar, but as a composer and producer, he's done right by his lyricist, and the results are modest but rewarding. Two big names in alternative music are joining forces to pay tribute to Jack. Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Jay Farrar of Son Volt join us to talk. His road comes full circle with this self-exploration, resulting in an alcohol-fueled paranoia and a plunge into madness. The focus is on Kerouac's book, Big Sur, which he wrote in 1961, a few years after having spent time in the area. Several people read passages from the book. Production Co . Summary: Son Volt's Jay Farrar and Death Cab For Cutie's Benjamin Gibbard helped write songs for a documentary about Jack Kerouac in 2007. This album is a further expansion of the project. The new film, One Fast Move or I'm Gone- Kerouac's Big Sur, takes us back to the cabin he retreated to in the Big Sur woods, the Beat haunts of San Francisco and New York City for an unflinching look at the compelling events his book is based on. I think the book Big Sur would make a great concept album and Jay Farrar certainly tried
