Vulnerable is the third posthumous album by Marvin Gaye. Recorded in sessions throughout 1977, the album was a decade in the making, first being worked on in 1968 during sessions in New York with Bobby Scott. Reworked by Gaye a decade later, the album was originally going to be released in 1979 under the title, The Ballads, but was shelved. Two decades later, Motown released it under the title Vulnerable, including seven songs from the sessions and three alternate cuts. Songs in album Marvin Gaye - Vulnerable 1997. His first attempt at recording an album of jazz standards took place in 1968, but was quickly abandoned in favor of more saleable pop material the abandoned recordings were issued in 1985 under the title Romantically Yours. His second attempt took place in 1977, following the completion of the monumental Here, My Dear. Vulnerable is the end result of a project entitled The Ballads that Marvin Gaye began in 1966. Gaye intended the project as a showcase for his crooning, as well as a way to pay tribute to the pop and jazz standards he loved. It was a labor of love that took him 12 years to complete, and even after it was finished, the record wasn't released until 1997. Was it worth the wait For dedicated fans, it certainly was, since Gaye's voice is as beautiful and soulful as ever.
